Karnataka Is Waiving 50% Of Your Traffic Fines — Check If Your Challan Qualifies & When You Can Avail It

Motorists in Karnataka can now settle long-pending traffic and transport department violations at half the cost during a newly announced 20-day amnesty window.
The Karnataka government has officially launched a fresh drive to help vehicle owners clear their financial liabilities, announcing that Karnataka is waiving 50% of outstanding penalties. If you have been sitting on unpaid notices, this initiative provides a limited-time opportunity to settle your dues at a significant discount. The scheme, which comes into effect on June 21, is designed to reduce the massive backlog of unresolved citations that have accumulated across the state.
Understanding the Scope of the Waiver
This latest relief measure is comprehensive, covering both police-issued electronic citations and specific cases handled by the Transport Department. Officials have confirmed that the discount applies to all pending traffic e-challan fines recorded up to May 2026. Furthermore, for those with older, persistent issues, the government has extended the offer to include Transport Department cases registered between 1991 and 2022 that remain unsettled.
With an estimated Rs 2,827 crore in fines still recoverable across the state, authorities are encouraging citizens to act quickly. This move follows the success of previous amnesty drives, including a notable period in late 2025 where over 77.4 lakh cases were resolved, generating roughly Rs 201 crore in revenue. By allowing motorists to pay only half of their pending dues, the state aims to close these long-standing cases once and for all.
How to Check If Your Challan Qualifies
Vehicle owners looking to take advantage of the offer should first verify their status online. To check if your challan qualifies, you can utilize official digital platforms such as the Karnataka State Police (KSP) mobile app, the ASTraM application, or the KarnatakaOne portal. These systems allow users to enter their vehicle registration details to view a list of outstanding violations and the corresponding amounts, now updated with the 50% concession.
When You Can Avail the Discount
The window of opportunity to clear your records is strictly limited to 20 days, beginning June 21 and ending on July 10. Once this period concludes, the state is expected to resume charging the full penalty amount, and with such a large volume of traffic violations remaining, officials have indicated that they are unlikely to extend such leniency indefinitely.
Beyond the digital route, citizens also have the option to visit their local traffic police station or the Traffic Management Centre to settle their dues in person. By opting to pay during this window, the case is officially marked as closed, effectively granting motorists a clean slate and ensuring they avoid the legal complications associated with long-term unpaid citations.
