Global Diplomatic Pressure Mounts as Palestinians Call on Trump to Stop Israeli Annexation

The diplomatic pressure surrounding the future of the West Bank has reached a fever pitch, with a unified bloc of Arab and Muslim nations formally calling on U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene against Israeli annexation plans. During a high-stakes gathering at the United Nations, Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour signaled that the international community is looking to Washington to curb what he described as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “craziness” and “nonsense” regarding territorial expansion.

The move comes as reports indicate the Trump administration has signaled a willingness to play the role of a regional broker, reportedly vowing to Arab and Muslim leaders that he would block any formal Israeli move to annex the West Bank. These assurances, coupled with a broader, comprehensive plan presented by the U.S. president to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza—where Israeli forces currently control a significant portion of the enclave—have placed the spotlight firmly on the limits of American influence over its primary Middle Eastern ally.

A Coordinated Strategy of Expansion

Representing the Arab Group at the UN, Saudi Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil issued a sharp condemnation of what he termed a “coordinated strategy” by Israel to entrench permanent control over Palestinian land. The bloc expressed deep alarm over the systematic dismantling of Palestinian rights, arguing that recent military actions and settler aggression are not isolated incidents but part of a deliberate effort to alter the region's demographic reality.

For the Palestinians, the urgency is existential. The goal, as reaffirmed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), remains the creation of a sovereign, viable, and contiguous Palestinian state. Turkish deputy ambassador Fikriye Asli Guven, speaking on behalf of the OIC, urged the Security Council to move beyond rhetoric and implement effective measures to halt forcible displacement and settlement expansion in both the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
