13-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Water Body Inside Fenced Complex In Delhi
A tragic incident in East Delhi has left a family in mourning after a young boy lost his life while venturing into a prohibited water feature.
The serene atmosphere of the Talab Complex in East Delhi’s Mandawali area was shattered this week by a heartbreaking accident. Roshan Chauhan, a 13-year-old resident of Patparganj, lost his life after drowning in a water body located within the gated grounds. The incident has once again turned the spotlight on safety protocols in public recreational zones across the capital.
A Routine Afternoon Ends in Tragedy
According to reports from local authorities, the teenager had stepped out of his home on Wednesday afternoon to play, but he failed to return by the evening. When the sun began to set, his anxious family members launched a frantic search around 5 pm. Their search led them to the familiar surroundings of the Talab Park near Talab Chowk, a place the boy was known to visit. Upon arrival, the family discovered the child’s personal belongings—his slippers and clothing—abandoned at the edge of the pond.
Disputed Security Measures
Following the discovery of his belongings, the family managed to retrieve the boy from the water. Despite rushing him to two separate private hospitals, doctors were unable to revive him, declaring him dead on arrival. The victim was later taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
While the family has not raised suspicions of foul play, they have voiced serious concerns regarding the maintenance of the complex. Local accounts suggest that the pond, which was originally constructed for Chhath Puja, remains filled with water throughout the year. Although the site is enclosed with a protective net fence and includes warning signboards prohibiting public entry, residents allege that the measures are insufficient. There are reports that children frequently find ways to slip under the netting to bathe in the water, raising questions about the efficacy of the guards posted at the premises.
Police Investigation
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Preliminary findings by the police indicate that the boy may have bypassed the security fencing to enter the water for a swim. While the site is clearly marked as a restricted area, the tragic loss of a young life highlights the risks associated with such water bodies in residential neighbourhoods. As of now, police are proceeding with standard legal formalities, noting that the family has not alleged any criminal intent in the incident.
