The Leader of the Opposition has spotlighted two young individuals for uncovering alleged tender irregularities within the CBSE’s examination systems.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has launched a sharp critique of the Prime Minister, suggesting that the current administration prefers a generation preoccupied with social media and menial tasks over one that demands accountability. Gandhi’s remarks came on Sunday as he shared an eight-minute video documenting his recent meeting with Sarthak Sidhant, an 18-year-old student who played a pivotal role in exposing alleged flaws in the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On Screen Marking (OSM) system.

The interaction, filmed last week, highlights the efforts of Sidhant and ethical hacker Nisarg Adhikari. The duo raised alarms regarding the tendering process used to select COEMPT as a vendor for the board's digital evaluation infrastructure. Gandhi, in his post on X, framed the incident as a "victory for the youth" and a significant embarrassment for the government, suggesting that the young investigators achieved what established investigative journalists and major media houses had failed to do.

Challenging the Status Quo

During the conversation, Gandhi asked the student whether he felt his actions were right or wrong. Sidhant maintained that he acted as a "concerned citizen" and detailed the investigative work he and Adhikari undertook to bring the alleged collusion between the CBSE and the private edtech firm to light. The student has already presented his findings to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, further amplifying the scrutiny on the board’s administrative processes.

Gandhi used the platform to contrast the curiosity of these young men with what he described as the government’s preferred youth archetype. "Mr. Modi ji wants our youth to keep making reels and frying pakoras, without asking questions or opening their eyes," Gandhi said. He lauded the student’s mindset and courage, asserting that the country’s future remains secure only when the younger generation remains inquisitive and informed rather than complacent.

Why This Matters

The public intervention by the Leader of the Opposition underscores a growing political friction regarding transparency in national examination bodies. By framing the CBSE case as a triumph of individual agency over systemic opacity, the discourse taps into broader concerns about job market accessibility and administrative integrity.

For the government, the pressure to address these allegations is mounting as the narrative shifts from technical procurement issues to a debate about civic engagement. As the Opposition continues to leverage such cases to paint the administration as indifferent to the concerns of the next generation, the role of young whistleblowers in the digital age is becoming an increasingly potent element of national political discourse.
