Domestic Tragedy in Thiruvananthapuram: Couple Dead After Reconciliation Fails

Four children in Kerala are left orphaned after a domestic dispute led to the brutal murder of their mother and the subsequent suicide of their father.

The serene outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram were shaken this week by a devastating sequence of events that left four children without their parents. The tragedy unfolded at a rented home in the capital, where 36-year-old Haseena Beevi was killed in the early hours of Wednesday. According to the police, her husband, 46-year-old Suresh, allegedly slit her throat with a kitchen knife following a heated domestic argument. The couple’s four children, ranging in age from seven to 18, were present in the house when the horrific incident occurred.

A Failed Mediation

The family, who had only moved into the area four months prior, had been grappling with long-standing marital tensions. Just a day before the violence escalated, the local authorities had intervened to restore peace. Following a complaint filed by Haseena, the couple attended a mediation session at a local police station on Monday. The dispute appeared resolved at the time, and Haseena returned to their residence alongside her mother. However, the fragile truce collapsed by late Tuesday night.

The Aftermath and Investigation

Witnesses and investigators noted that after the attack, Suresh allegedly cleaned the weapon and fled the premises. The alarm was raised by the couple’s eldest daughter, a student in class 12, who alerted neighbors and emergency services. Despite urgent medical intervention, Haseena succumbed to her injuries. After the crime, Suresh abandoned his car at the Balaramapuram railway station. In an attempt to misdirect investigators, he reportedly left his mobile phone at a local shop, claiming he had found it discarded on the roadside, before disappearing from the city.

Discovery in Tamil Nadu

The search for the accused came to a grim conclusion on Thursday morning. Authorities confirmed that the body of V Suresh was discovered on a railway track in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. Investigators believe he died by suicide shortly after fleeing Kerala. Local councillor Ajayakumar remarked that the family largely kept to themselves and maintained minimal social ties within the neighborhood. As the community reels from the shock, the investigation continues into the circumstances that turned a mediated family dispute into such a profound tragedy.
