The three-day-old administration of Chief Minister Shivakumar has navigated its first significant hurdle, as the resignation of senior leader Ramalinga Reddy was declared resolved following a marathon meeting that stretched into the early hours of Saturday. The discord, which surfaced on Friday, stemmed from perceived grievances regarding portfolio allocation—specifically, unfulfilled expectations surrounding the high-profile Bengaluru Development portfolio.

A Late-Night Reconciliation

The resolution came after Chief Minister Shivakumar held discussions with the minister for nearly two-and-a-half hours at a private hotel in Jayanagar. The meeting, which concluded around 1:30 am on June 6, involved senior party figures and key associates. Emerging from the talks, Shivakumar dismissed the event as a "miscommunication" and reiterated his long-standing personal bond with the veteran leader, noting that their friendship dates back to 1980.

"This is a family matter. We will all sit together and talk. Everything has been resolved," Shivakumar told reporters, emphasizing that the government would move forward unitedly. When asked for his response, Reddy, who had previously announced his resignation citing broken assurances, echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiment, stating simply that the issue had been settled.

Broader Discontent in the Ranks

While the immediate crisis surrounding the cabinet appears to have been defused, the episode highlights a fragile balancing act within the Congress party. The tension was not isolated; other leaders, including K.H. Muniyappa, have also reportedly voiced dissatisfaction, signaling potential friction in the distribution of ministerial responsibilities.
