That sense of safety was shattered this week in Bengaluru, where the HAL police registered an FIR against the staff of ‘Little Buds Day Care,’ a facility operating within the Capgemini campus at Brookefield. For the families of IT employees who entrusted their toddlers to this centre, the reality, as alleged in the police complaint, has been a nightmare.

The complaint, filed by Tilakesh Kumar, paints a harrowing picture of what transpired on June 25. According to the document, caregivers and the in-charge of the facility allegedly subjected children to systematic physical and mental abuse. The charges go beyond mere negligence; the allegations include children being dragged, beaten, and forcefully handled. Even more disturbing, the complaint claims that crying toddlers were confined in washrooms and had water poured on them as a form of punishment.

The abuse might have remained hidden behind closed doors if not for digital evidence. Reports indicate that the situation came to light after videos showing distressed children began circulating on WhatsApp, eventually reaching the parents. The police have moved swiftly, registering a case under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which deals specifically with cruelty to children.

In the wake of the uproar, Capgemini has confirmed it is cooperating with the authorities. The company has moved to temporarily shut down the daycare facility as a precautionary measure, stating that the health and well-being of their employees' families remain their priority. While the investigation is ongoing, the incident has left many in the IT corridor questioning the oversight mechanisms for third-party service providers operating within private campuses.
