Yogandhra-2026: Andhra Pradesh Launches Massive Campaign Aiming for 1 Crore Yoga Participants

The Andhra Pradesh government has rolled out a 14-day state-wide wellness drive, deploying thousands of trainers to turn yoga into a daily public health movement.

The Andhra Pradesh government officially kicked off “Yogandhra-2026” this Sunday, marking the start of a 14-day statewide campaign designed to integrate yoga into the daily lives of its citizens. With an ambitious goal of engaging one crore people across all 28 districts, the initiative serves as a precursor to the 12th International Yoga Day on June 21. On the opening day alone, the official Yogandhra portal recorded 25,000 registrations, signaling strong public interest in the government’s push for a healthier, more active population.

A State-Wide Movement for Wellness

The inaugural event was held at the historic Lepakshi Temple in the Sri Sathya Sai district, presided over by Health Minister N. Satya Kumar Yadav. Across the state, community-led sessions took place simultaneously at key landmarks, including Manginapudi Beach in Krishna district, the SV Zoo Park in Tirupati, and Ontimitta in Kadapa. These efforts are part of a broader strategy championed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who envisions yoga as a cornerstone of the “Swarna Andhra Vision-2047.” By framing yoga as the “best medicine” for modern lifestyle ailments like stress and anxiety, the government hopes to transition the practice from a one-off event into a sustained household habit.

Empowering Trainers and Communities

To ensure the campaign reaches every corner of the state, the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department has mobilized a massive network of instructors. Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian confirmed that 5,922 Master Trainers completed intensive training over the weekend to lead the drive. Their impact was immediate, with over 50,000 people receiving guided yoga training on the first day alone. The government has set a target to train 2.5 lakh individuals through a focused five-day curriculum, supported by a dedicated budget of Rs 10 crore allocated for event management, infrastructure, and public outreach.

Digital Integration and Local Engagement

Recognizing the need for accessible guidance, the state has launched a digital ecosystem to support practitioners. Through the Yogandhra portal and a dedicated WhatsApp-based learning system—where users can access 168 instructional videos by sending a message to 81424 04888—the government is providing tools for home-based practice. Beyond digital efforts, the campaign is deeply rooted in local community engagement. From police personnel participating in Vijayawada to farmers joining sessions in Amalapuram, the initiative is tailored to include diverse groups, with special awareness competitions being hosted across 253 village and ward secretariats.

Promoting Yoga Tourism and Future Goals

A unique feature of Yogandhra-2026 is the strategic focus on yoga tourism. The government plans to utilize 56 prominent spiritual and tourist sites, such as the Undavalli Caves and Srisailam, as venues for special sessions, aiming to blend physical wellness with the state's cultural heritage. As the campaign progresses toward June 20, government medical colleges have been instructed to ensure active participation among students, ensuring that the next generation of healthcare professionals is well-versed in preventive wellness. With June designated as "Yoga Month," the state is positioning itself to become a national leader in public health through this synchronized, grassroots movement.
