University of Hyderabad Opens Admissions for 2026-27: What Students Need to Know

With the application window now open, the central university is inviting candidates to apply for 17 undergraduate and integrated postgraduate programmes before the July 21 deadline.

The corridors of the University of Hyderabad are bracing for a fresh intake, as the institution kicks off its admission cycle for the 2026-27 academic session. Prospective students looking to secure a seat in one of the university’s 17 undergraduate or integrated PG programmes must note that the online portal at uohyd.ac.in is now active. With a total intake of 470 seats, the competition is expected to be as robust as ever.

The Application Timeline

Candidates must base their applications on their CUET UG 2026 scores. The university has set a strict deadline of July 21 for submissions. Following the application phase, the institution will move quickly to finalise the batch. The counselling list is scheduled for notification on August 3, with mandatory physical reporting and document verification set for August 13 and 14. Classes for the incoming cohort are slated to commence on August 17, marking the start of a new academic journey for those who make the cut.

A Diverse Range of Programmes

The university is offering a wide array of courses, ranging from a 4-year BS (Honours/Research) in Chemistry to a suite of 5-year integrated degrees. These include six M.Sc. programmes—covering subjects like Physics, Mathematical Sciences, Biology, and Psychology—and ten integrated MA programmes, spanning disciplines from Political Science and Sociology to Language Sciences and Indian literature. As per official norms, seats will be allocated in accordance with the Government of India’s reservation policy, ensuring provisions for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD, and Defence Personnel.

Leadership Transition and Campus Outlook

This admission cycle comes at a time of transition for the university's administration. Professor J Anuradha, a senior academic and acclaimed Kuchipudi dancer with over three decades of experience, has taken charge as the in-charge Vice-Chancellor. She stepped into the role on March 13, 2026, following the retirement of Professor BJ Rao, who vacated the post upon turning 70. Prof. Anuradha’s leadership will be central to managing the upcoming academic year and ensuring a smooth transition for the incoming students.

Why it Matters: The Bigger Picture

The University of Hyderabad remains a vital hub for higher education, and its adherence to the CUET framework highlights the broader national trend of centralising entrance processes to ensure transparency and equity. For students, the university isn't just an institution but a platform for critical inquiry and intellectual growth. As the campus prepares for the new academic calendar in August, the focus remains on maintaining the institution’s rigorous academic standards while navigating the logistical challenges of a large-scale national admissions process. Candidates are strongly urged to consult the detailed prospectus on the official website to avoid any discrepancies in their application journey.
