Stalin Questions Longevity of Vijay’s TVK Government, Doubts It Will Last Three Months

The political temperature in Tamil Nadu has spiked as DMK president MK Stalin publicly questioned the stability of the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government. While the DMK had initially adopted a "wait and watch" policy, intending to refrain from criticism for the first six months of the new regime, Stalin signalled that the current political volatility has made such silence untenable. Speaking at an event where former VCK legislator Panaiyur Babu officially crossed over to the DMK, Stalin remarked that public discourse is already dominated by doubts over whether the TVK government can survive even three months.

A Shift in Strategy

The decision to break his silence marks a significant pivot for the opposition leader. Stalin noted that while he had hoped to allow the government time to find its footing, the rapid accumulation of adverse circumstances forced his hand. The induction of Panaiyur Babu, who was welcomed into the party by senior DMK leaders including Udhayanidhi Stalin, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, and TR Baalu, provided the platform for this critique. Stalin lauded the former MLA as a principled worker, contrasting his conduct with the perceived instability currently plaguing the ruling party.

Stalin highlighted specific developmental milestones, particularly in the Cheyyur constituency, where the party oversaw the establishment of a SIPCOT industrial estate, a government hospital, and new arts and science college facilities. He also underscored the party’s focus on social justice, pointing to the construction of memorials for anti-caste leaders Immanuel Sekaran and Rettamalai Srinivasan as evidence of the DMK’s commitment to its core ideology—a narrative intended to contrast with the uncertainty surrounding the TVK govt.
