Relief for Andhra Pradesh Workers: Wage Payments Under VB-G RAM G Scheme to Begin After July 10

The Centre has released over Rs 1,400 crore to Andhra Pradesh for wage distribution, easing concerns for lakhs of laborers awaiting their dues.

For the 14 to 20 lakh workers across Andhra Pradesh who rely on the national rural ఉపాధి (employment) guarantee framework, the uncertainty surrounding June wages is finally lifting. Following the transition to the VB-G RAM G scheme, many laborers had been anxious about potential delays in payment processing. Officials have now confirmed that the long-awaited funds will begin hitting bank accounts shortly after July 10.

The financial injection comes directly from the Centre, which has sanctioned Rs 1,414.16 crore specifically for the implementation of the VB-G RAM G scheme in the state. This allocation is significant; after Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh has received the largest share of funds for this cycle. The money is earmarked for wage payments spanning July, August, and September, ensuring that the primary workforce is supported through the upcoming quarter.

Breakdown of the Allocation

The funding structure is a collaborative effort between the Centre and the state. Of the Rs 1,414.16 crore provided by the Centre, the distribution is categorized to ensure inclusive coverage: Rs 241.54 crore is set aside for SC communities, Rs 78.21 crore for STs, and Rs 1,094 crore for other sections. To complete the payment cycle, the state government will add its 40% share, amounting to approximately Rs 565.66 crore.

To ensure transparency, all expenditure must be recorded through the VB-G RAM G software and the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). The central directive is clear: officials must prevent double payments and ensure that the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism reaches the intended workers without administrative hurdles.

Why it Matters

This development is more than just a routine financial disbursement; it highlights the operational friction that often accompanies the rebranding or restructuring of large-scale social welfare schemes. For a state like Andhra Pradesh, maintaining the flow of mgnregs-related wages is critical to rural stability.

The shift to the VB-G RAM G model has been closely watched by observers as a test of administrative agility. By releasing the funds in advance for the next three months, the government is attempting to preempt the usual cycle of wage arrears. However, the success of this rollout now depends on the state government’s speed in matching its share and clearing the digital hurdles within the PFMS. For the millions of andhra pradesh laborers, the July 10 date is the benchmark for the effectiveness of this new payment architecture.
