Putin Rules Out Interference in India-China Ties, Dismisses Claims of Beijing’s Control Over Pakistan
Putin's word of caution on India-China ties; rejects notion that Pakistan is under Beijing's control

The Russian President emphasized a policy of non-interference in bilateral border disputes, asserting that Moscow’s partnerships with New Delhi and Beijing remain independent and distinct.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has underscored that Moscow will steer clear of the "delicate" and complex dynamic between India and China. During a media interaction in St Petersburg, Putin expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are actively working to resolve outstanding bilateral issues, particularly the prolonged border standoff that has strained ties since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes.
Maintaining a Balancing Act
Putin clarified that Russia’s strategic approach relies on maintaining strong, independent relationships with both Asian giants. He rejected the notion that Moscow’s deepening cooperation with Beijing could undermine its long-standing partnership with New Delhi, or vice versa. According to the President, the diplomatic frameworks Russia shares with each nation are distinct and do not create friction between the two stakeholders.
Reflecting on the history of regional diplomacy, the Russian leader noted that he was once instrumental in proposing the Russia-India-China (RIC) dialogue format to foster better cooperation. He reiterated that his government views its engagement with both countries as a balanced approach, emphasizing that Moscow sees no reason to intervene in their internal or bilateral matters.
Perspectives on Pakistan and Regional Dynamics
Addressing questions regarding the geopolitical landscape of South Asia, the Russian President pushed back against suggestions that Pakistan operates under the direct control of Beijing. While acknowledging that Islamabad maintains multi-faceted and significant ties with China, Putin emphasized that Pakistan is a large, sovereign country capable of managing its own diverse international relationships.
Defence and Future Collaborations
Beyond diplomatic relations, the discourse turned to defence cooperation. Putin highlighted the success of the BrahMos missile programme as a benchmark for Russia-India technological synergy. Furthermore, he revealed that Moscow had extended an invitation to New Delhi to collaborate on fifth-generation fighter aircraft technology. While India reportedly opted to focus on its own domestic development in this sector, Putin signaled that the door remains open for future cooperation, reaffirming Russia's commitment to sustained military and technological engagement with India.
