Protecting the Prodigy: BCCI to Sponsor Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Parents for Senior India Tours
'He is a kid': BCCI to bear parents' expenses as Sooryavanshi begins India journey

In a proactive move to support the 15-year-old batting sensation during his transition to international cricket, the board will fund his family's travel to the UK and Ireland.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a significant step to ensure the well-being of its latest teenage batting sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. As the 15-year-old prepares to step out of the familiar surroundings of age-group cricket and into the high-pressure environment of the senior India team, the board has confirmed it will cover all travel and accommodation expenses for his parents to accompany him on the upcoming tours of England and Ireland.
The decision reflects the BCCI's recognition of the immense psychological shift required for a teenager who, until recently, was navigating the world of sub-junior and junior cricket. "As he is a child, we have decided to allow his parents to accompany him so that they can be with him and help him settle in the new environment," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explained to the media.
A Seamless Transition to the Senior Ranks
The move comes on the heels of a record-breaking IPL 2026 season, where Sooryavanshi amassed a staggering 776 runs for the Rajasthan Royals, catapulting him into the national spotlight. Following his explosive performance, the youngster earned a maiden call-up to the senior T20I squad for the upcoming series in the UK and Ireland, as well as selection for the Asian Games.
Saikia noted that the board is mindful of the isolation a young player might feel when moving from the comfort zone of his peers to a professional senior men's team. By having his parents present, the BCCI hopes to provide a familiar emotional anchor, allowing the prodigy to focus entirely on his game without the distraction of homesickness or the anxiety of navigating a new professional sphere.
Building a Support System
The integration process is already underway. Sooryavanshi’s father, Sanjeev, has already traveled to Sri Lanka to join his son, who is currently participating in a tri-series with the India A squad. The BCCI secretary confirmed that this arrangement serves as a template for the upcoming international fixtures.
"We want to make him comfortable, as he is a 15-year-old kid. He was always traveling with his under-19 or junior boys' teams, but now he will be in the adult world," Saikia stated. While the intensity of international cricket is vastly different from the domestic circuit, the BCCI's initiative marks a shift toward more holistic player management, acknowledging that the best performances are often delivered when a player feels secure and supported off the field.
As Sooryavanshi begins his journey, the focus remains on balancing his rapid professional rise with the necessary care for his formative years. With his parents by his side during these pivotal tours, the board is looking to ensure that the teenager’s talent is nurtured with the same care as his personal development.
