Maharajganj News: Oversight team probes alleged irregularities in MGNREGA road works
Maharajganj News: मनरेगा कार्य में अनियमितता की शिकायत पर टीम ने की जांच
Officials conduct on-ground verification of soil filling projects following public complaints regarding standard compliance and labor records.
The dusty stretch between Lakhima-Pipraich and Murali Chauraha in the Partawal block of Maharajganj became the center of an administrative inquiry this Monday. Following persistent complaints from locals alleging that the MGNREGA project—specifically the soil-filling work along the road shoulders—was executed without adhering to standard protocols, a departmental team descended on the site to conduct a physical audit.
The investigation, led by APO Utkarsh Kumar and Block Technical Assistant Ajay Kumar, focused on bridging the gap between official records and site reality. The team did not just rely on paperwork; they walked the length of the road to assess the quality of the soil-filling and cross-verified the physical progress against the muster rolls issued for the project.
During the site visit, the officials prioritized the human element of the scheme. They interviewed workers found at the location, cross-referencing their testimonies with the documented labor records to ensure that the individuals paid for the work were indeed those who carried it out. The local Rozgar Sevak was also tasked with producing key documentation, including the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Public Works Department (PWD), which was deemed vital to the project’s legitimacy.
Why it matters
This probe in Maharajganj highlights a recurring tension in rural infrastructure: the challenge of maintaining accountability in decentralized public works. While the initial findings suggest that the work exists on the ground and the necessary NOCs were secured, the very existence of a formal inquiry reflects a growing demand for transparency in MGNREGA implementation. In districts where large-scale labor schemes are the primary engine for local employment, even minor procedural lapses can lead to significant public distrust. The outcome of this report, once submitted to higher authorities, will likely set a precedent for how similar complaints of "standard negligence" are handled in the region.
The team has completed the preliminary stage of their inquiry, confirming that the physical work is present and the records largely align with the field observations. However, the final verdict rests on the formal report currently being drafted for higher officials. For the residents of Partawal, the investigation serves as a signal that the administration is at least beginning to treat local oversight of government schemes with the gravity it requires.
