JAC Delhi 2026: Clock Ticking for Engineering Aspirants as Registration Window Nears Close

With the June 9 deadline fast approaching, students have only hours left to finalise their applications and choice-filling for BTech and BArch seats in the capital’s top technical universities.

For thousands of engineering aspirants, the next few hours are critical. The Joint Admission Committee (JAC) Delhi is set to wrap up its registration and choice-filling process for the 2026 academic session on June 9 at 11:30 PM. This centralised portal remains the gateway for students seeking a seat at Delhi’s premier government-funded institutions, including the Delhi Technological University (DTU), Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT), and the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi), among others.

Candidates must visit the official website at jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in to complete their forms. The process involves a non-refundable registration fee of Rs 1,500, which can be paid via various digital modes, including UPI, net banking, or debit and credit cards. Given the volume of traffic expected on the final day, officials are urging students to avoid last-minute technical glitches by submitting their preferences well ahead of the midnight cutoff.

Admission Criteria and Seat Allocation

Admission to these prestigious institutions is strictly merit-based, dictated by the candidates' JEE Main 2026 scores. While the Common Rank List of JEE Main Paper 1 serves as the primary benchmark for most colleges, IIIT-Delhi follows a slightly different approach. Beyond the standard JEE percentile, the institute factors in bonus points for applicants who have excelled in areas such as Olympiads, national-level innovation, sports, chess, and cultural activities.

The seat distribution is heavily weighted toward local talent, with 85% of the total seats reserved for Delhi Region candidates—defined as those who completed their Class 12 education from a school within the National Capital Territory. The remaining 15% are open to candidates from across the country. With over 7,300 seats up for grabs across five universities, including the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) and the Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU), competition for top-tier branches remains intense.

Why It Matters

The JAC Delhi process is a barometer for the health of engineering education in the capital. By centralising admissions, the system aims to reduce the bureaucratic fatigue that often accompanies securing a seat in elite institutions. However, the high demand for seats at universities like DTU and NSUT highlights a persistent trend: even with expanding capacity, the aspiration for a degree from Delhi’s legacy technical institutes far outstrips supply. For students, this makes the choice-filling stage the most strategic part of the entire admission cycle.

Following this registration window, the committee is scheduled to release the results for the first round of seat allotment on June 15. Candidates who secure a seat will then transition to the online reporting phase, which runs from June 17 to June 25, requiring a seat acceptance fee of Rs 95,000. For those who miss the current window or fail to secure their preferred branch, a second registration period will open on June 26, offering a final opportunity to enter the fray.
