In a recent address in Chandigarh, Taranjit Singh Sandhu highlighted India’s role as a model of stability during a period of widespread international uncertainty.

Addressing the geopolitical volatility currently gripping the Middle East and various other global regions, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu described India as an "island of safety." Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a visit to Chandigarh, Sandhu emphasized that while the nation is not immune to the economic and political pressures affecting the global landscape, it has successfully established a unique model of stability.

"We have to be thankful that in such a challenging time in the Middle East and other places, India is an island of safety," Sandhu said. He noted that the country faces the same overarching pressures as its peers, yet maintains a distinct resilience that keeps it insulated from the worst of the current international upheaval.

The Mandate for a Skilled Generation

Beyond the immediate focus on geopolitical security, the Delhi L-G turned his attention to the country’s long-term aspirations. Discussing the "Viksit Bharat" vision for 2047, Sandhu stressed that the onus of realizing this goal lies heavily with the youth. He argued that the current education system must pivot from a focus on mere degrees to an emphasis on practical, industry-ready skills.

"When we talk about youth, we are looking for youth with appropriate skills, not just youth with education," he stated. Given that India possesses one of the world's most youthful populations, Sandhu suggested that bridging the gap between academic attainment and technical competency is the most critical hurdle for the nation's future economic trajectory.

Strengthening Healthcare and Sustainability

Earlier in the day, the L-G visited the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh to mark World Environment Day. During the visit, he engaged in an informal interaction with the facility's medical fraternity, led by Director Prof. Vivek Lal.

The discussion served as a platform to examine the intersection of public health priorities and environmental responsibility. Sandhu commended the institution for setting high benchmarks in patient care and research, noting that a constructive dialogue between the government and medical experts is vital for robust healthcare delivery. He reiterated that sustainability must remain a core component of India's development strategy, ensuring that progress in health and infrastructure does not come at the cost of the environment.

The convergence of these themes—national security, human capital development, and public health—underscores a multi-pronged approach to governance that Sandhu advocates as India moves toward its centennial year. By maintaining stability at home while fostering a highly skilled workforce, the administration aims to solidify India's position as a reliable pillar in an otherwise unpredictable global order.
