Horror in Gorakhpur: Nine-Month-Old Infant Abducted from Mother’s Bed, Found Abandoned and Injured

A quiet night in a village within the Gulriha police station limits turned into a scene of local panic when a sleeping baby girl vanished from her mother’s side, only to be discovered hours later in a harrowing state.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the district of Gorakhpur. The family, originally from Paniyara in Maharajganj, has been residing in the Gulriha area for the past decade. On Friday night, the parents were asleep with their nine-month-old daughter when, at approximately 2:00 AM, the mother awoke to find the infant missing from the bed.

Panic ensued immediately. The family and neighbors conducted a frantic search throughout the night, scouring the nearby fields and lanes, but the child was nowhere to be found. The mystery deepened as the hours passed, leaving the family in a state of absolute distress.

The search ended on a grim note on Saturday morning. Villagers heading toward their fields discovered the baby lying near a tin shed, approximately 500 meters from her home. The infant was found in a semi-conscious, semi-nude state, and was visibly bleeding from injuries, sparking immediate alarm among the local community.

A Race for Medical Care

Upon receiving reports from the shocked villagers, the local police arrived at the scene. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the infant was rushed via ambulance to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Bhathat. Given the severity of her condition, doctors provided initial stabilization before referring her to the BRD Medical College for specialized, advanced care.

Why it matters

This incident, now a feature-story of grave concern, underscores the persistent vulnerabilities in rural safety and the disturbing frequency of crimes against the most defenseless. While police investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators, the event highlights a critical gap in local security. For law enforcement, the primary challenge remains piecing together the timeline of how an infant could be lifted from a secure room without waking the parents, a detail that points toward either a targeted act or a significant lapse in community surveillance. The psychological and physical toll on the family is immense, and the case has renewed calls for tighter monitoring in residential pockets where trust in neighborhood safety has been shaken.

Authorities are currently scrutinizing the area for evidence, treating the case as a high-priority criminal investigation. As the child fights for recovery, the village remains under a cloud of uncertainty, waiting for answers on how such a brazen abduction could occur in their midst.
