FMGE June 2026: Pass rates plummet as NBEMS releases results

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences has declared the FMGE June 2026 results, revealing a sharp decline in success rates for foreign medical graduates.

For thousands of medical graduates who completed their training abroad, the wait ended today. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially released the fmge result 2026 following the June 28 examination. The results, now live on the official website at natboard.edu.in, are presented as a digitally signed PDF. Candidates are advised to verify the document’s digital signature to ensure authenticity before proceeding.

The numbers tell a sobering story. Reports indicate that only 12.4% of candidates managed to clear this year's exam. This represents a significant dip from the 24% pass percentage recorded in 2025, highlighting a growing challenge for students seeking to practice medicine in India after earning their degrees overseas.

Accessing your scorecard

While the result PDF provides a list of successful candidates, individual scorecards are not available immediately. The NBEMS has confirmed that candidates will be able to download their detailed scorecards starting July 16. These will remain active for six months; the board has issued a stern reminder that requests made after this window will be ignored, leaving candidates without a vital document.

Regarding technical discrepancies in the question paper, the board stated that a faculty review was conducted post-exam. Marks have been awarded to all candidates for questions deemed technically incorrect, and in instances where two options were valid, credit was given to those who selected either.

The certification hurdle

Clearing the fmge june exam is only the first step. The scorecard, on its own, holds limited utility for professional registration. To practice legally, successful candidates must obtain an official Pass Certificate from the NBEMS. This document is issued only after a mandatory in-person identity and credential verification process. The schedule for this verification will be announced on the nbems website, and until that process is complete, candidates cannot register with any State Medical Council.

Why it matters

The sharp drop in the pass percentage to 12.4% is likely to trigger fresh debates regarding the standardization of medical education for Indian students abroad. As the gap between those qualifying and those failing widens, the pressure on aspirants to navigate the complexities of the FMGE grows. For policymakers, this data serves as a critical indicator of the alignment—or lack thereof—between international medical curricula and the professional standards expected by Indian medical regulators.
