A weekend getaway in Sindhudurg turned fatal after a 25-year-old tourist suffered a fatal injury following a reckless jump into a shallow resort pool.

The visuals are as jarring as they are avoidable. In a video that has since gone viral, a group of friends is seen dancing poolside at a resort in Vayari village, Malvan taluka. Among them was 25-year-old Shrenik Milind Takale, a tourist from Kolhapur. In a split second, the festive mood shifted to a desperate scramble for help. Takale climbed to a height of nearly ten feet and executed a headfirst dive into what was clearly marked or designated as a shallow section of the pool.

According to local police, the pool was only four feet deep—a section intended for children, not for high-altitude diving. The impact of his head striking the concrete bottom was immediate and devastating. Takale collapsed instantly, unable to recover from the severe head injuries sustained upon landing. His friends rushed him to the Malvan Rural Hospital, but the medical staff there declared him dead on arrival.

The Sindhudurg police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Sub-Inspector Ganesh Mane is overseeing the case, and the victim’s body has been handed over to his family following the necessary post-mortem formalities.
