CBSE Files Formal Police Complaint Following Coordinated Cyber Attacks on Post-Result Portal

The Central Board of Secondary Education has turned to the IFSO unit of the Delhi Police after its re-evaluation portal faced a barrage of malicious digital traffic.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially moved to protect its digital infrastructure, filing a formal complaint with the Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police. This action comes after the board’s post-result services portal, launched on June 2, 2026, was hit by a series of sophisticated, coordinated cyber attacks over a three-day span. The portal serves as a critical interface for Class 12 students seeking verification and re-evaluation of their answer scripts.

A Multi-Front Defense Strategy

According to the board, the attackers deployed large volumes of malicious traffic from both domestic and international IP addresses. The intent, according to official statements, appeared to be the destabilization of the platform and the potential unauthorized extraction of sensitive data. To counter this, the board mobilized a high-level technical coalition, including cybersecurity experts from IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, the Digital India Corporation, CERT-In, and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

Despite the intensity of these digital incursions, the CBSE has moved to reassure parents and students that their information remains secure. The board emphasized that continuous 24x7 monitoring successfully mitigated the impact of the attacks, ensuring that no data breaches or unauthorized access occurred. While some reports suggested that a limited number of students—estimated at around 50—faced initial disruptions, the board maintains that the systems are currently functioning within normal parameters.

Addressing Mounting Public Concerns

The timing of these cyber attacks is particularly sensitive, as the board is already navigating a wave of criticism regarding its evaluation processes. Recent claims from students alleging that the scanned copies of answer sheets provided on the portal did not match their original handwriting have fueled broader anxieties about the accuracy of the OnMark (OSM) system. This skepticism has amplified the potential for public inconvenience, as the board relies on these portals to maintain transparency and trust with millions of stakeholders.

The board’s decision to approach law enforcement signals a shift toward a more aggressive stance against entities it describes as "inimical to national interest." While the digital dust settles on this incident, students and stakeholders remain focused on the broader examination schedule. Currently, many are tracking updates regarding the official CBSE second board exam result date 2026, which continues to trend as students await further clarity on the academic calendar. The investigation by the IFSO unit is expected to provide deeper insights into the origins and actors behind these targeted attempts to cripple the board's digital services.
