The ruling party has launched a fierce critique of the Leader of the Opposition, accusing him of spreading instability and unfounded conspiracy theories regarding the nation’s governance.

The political temperature in New Delhi has spiked following remarks by Rahul Gandhi, who recently predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not remain in office a year from now. Addressing the Congress party’s National Adivasi Professional Conclave, the Leader of the Opposition claimed the government is facing an internal "institutional revolt" and warned that an "economic tsunami" is looming. He alleged that the current administration has stripped away protections against global financial shocks while exerting undue influence over vital national institutions.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded with a sharp rebuke, characterizing the comments as a deliberate attempt to incite panic and chaos. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT Cell, dismissed the assertions as part of a recurring pattern of conspiracy theories. He questioned whether Gandhi is genuinely concerned with facts or is merely manufacturing alarm to deflect from his party’s repeated electoral setbacks.

Institutional Stability and the 'Emergency' Rhetoric

The BJP has particularly taken issue with Gandhi’s persistent warnings regarding an impending emergency. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla labeled the Congress leader a "certified anarchist," pointing out that the only time an emergency was declared in India was under the leadership of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi. According to the BJP, the systemic breakdown Gandhi describes is actually a phenomenon occurring within the Congress itself, rather than the state apparatus.

Furthermore, the BJP leadership emphasized that the country’s institutions—ranging from the judiciary to the Election Commission—have functioned independently, noting that no court has found evidence to support allegations of election rigging. The party argued that the constant disparagement of these bodies serves only to weaken the nation’s image, both at home and abroad.

Resilience of the Indian Economy

Responding to claims of an economic collapse, government representatives highlighted the resilience of India’s current financial framework. They asserted that while the country faces global headwinds, including geopolitical uncertainty and supply chain disruptions, the "shock absorbers" built over the past decade remain robust.

The BJP highlighted that the nation continues to manage these pressures through stronger foreign exchange reserves, controlled inflation, and significant infrastructure investment. With record inflows of foreign direct investment and targeted support for industry and micro-enterprises, the ruling party maintains that the narrative of an economic crisis is fundamentally divorced from reality. The BJP concluded that such fear-mongering is a calculated move to prioritize political gains over national stability.
