Bitter Notes: Soumyajit Chakraborty’s Explosive Allegations Against Aditi Munshi Spark Row

Years after their shared stint on a popular music reality show, the rivalry between the two performers has spilled over into public accusations of manipulation and political influence.

The stage lights of the 2015 Sa Re Ga Ma Pa season may have dimmed long ago, but the echoes of internal discord have only grown louder. Soumyajit Chakraborty, who emerged as the 'Champion of Champions' that year, has launched a scathing critique of fellow contestant and kirtan singer Aditi Munshi, alleging that her trajectory—from a struggling artist to a political figure—was paved with systemic manipulation rather than raw talent.

The Allegations of Influence

In a series of recent interviews, Soumyajit has claimed that Munshi’s presence on the show was secured through a calculated use of personal connections. According to his account, Munshi allegedly leveraged relationships, including an involvement with a scriptwriter for the show, to ensure her dominance in promotional materials and screen time. He further alleges that while other contestants were limited in their access, Munshi managed to secure twenty-two passes for the grand finale, while his own family was restricted to just three.

Soumyajit’s critique extends beyond the show’s mechanics to Munshi’s subsequent transition into politics. He has publicly questioned her shift from music to her marriage with Trinamool Congress leader Debraj Chakraborty, suggesting she abandoned her artistic integrity for political positioning. He remarked that he finds her lack of "dignity" concerning, urging her to return to her roots in music rather than pursuing a political career he believes is a poor fit for her.

A Divided Consensus

The allegations have not gone unchallenged. Other participants from the same season have offered a more tempered perspective, noting that the reality of the show’s hierarchy contradicts the narrative of an all-powerful contestant. Dipan Mitra, another finalist from that year, pointed out the logical inconsistency in the claim: if Munshi truly possessed the influence to manipulate outcomes, she would have secured the title for herself. Instead, the competition concluded with multiple category winners, including Soumyajit himself, while Munshi remained a finalist.

The Bigger Picture

This public sparring highlights a recurring friction between the "authenticity" of reality television and the optics of professional success. When contestants from high-stakes platforms transition into the public eye—particularly into politics—they often find their pasts subjected to intense, often revisionist, scrutiny. For the audience, this serves as a reminder that the narratives curated for television often leave behind bruised egos and long-standing grievances that rarely resolve when the cameras stop rolling. Whether these claims are viewed as valid whistleblowing or merely the bitterness of a long-standing rivalry, they reflect the fragile nature of fame in India’s hyper-competitive entertainment landscape.
