Adityanath emphasizes the need for a technologically proficient police force to tackle evolving challenges like cybercrime and disaster management.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for a significant overhaul of how the state’s security personnel are prepared for modern challenges. During a high-level meeting in Lucknow, the CM emphasized that the real strength of the police force lies in its discipline and its ability to adapt to a digital-first environment. He stressed that training must move beyond conventional methods to become more practical and result-oriented, ensuring that Uttar Pradesh's security apparatus remains the most efficient in the nation.

Bridging the gap with modern technology

The push for modernization is focused on integrating advanced digital tools into the daily operations of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Special Security Force (UPSSF). According to the CM, the integration of technology—ranging from artificial intelligence-enabled surveillance to drone operations—is vital for effective law and order management. Plans are already underway to digitize the PAC, which includes equipping vehicles with GPS and dashboard cameras to enhance real-time coordination across the state.

An integrated digital command structure

A key highlight of the proposed transformation is the Uttar Pradesh PAC Integrated Command and Control Centre. This initiative aims to link every battalion through a secure digital network, allowing for faster response times during elections, disaster relief efforts, and safety operations for women. By utilizing predictive analytics and real-time data monitoring, the state aims to shift from reactive policing to a proactive security model. Adityanath has further directed officials to expedite the development of infrastructure for women-led battalions, citing them as a cornerstone of the state's future security strategy.

Skill development and human expertise

Beyond hardware, the government is placing a heavy emphasis on the "human element" of policing. Adityanath noted that modern security is no longer just about maintaining order; it requires a deep understanding of forensic science, cybercrime investigation, and sensitive public communication. To support this, the training curriculum has been updated with 11 new sensitivity modules. The state has also seen record-breaking participation in the Mission Karmayogi initiative via the iGOT portal, with nearly four lakh police personnel completing training courses to sharpen their professional skills.

Scaling up training capacity

To sustain these improvements, the state has significantly bolstered its training capacity, expanding from 18,000 to over 60,000 personnel. With a network comprising a police academy, multiple specialized training schools, and recruit centers, the focus remains on consistent evaluation and the use of simulators for firing and driving practice. By combining these advanced facilities with traditional discipline, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to build a security force that is not only equipped with the latest gadgets but is also fully capable of applying them in complex, real-world scenarios.
