Tragedy at Kuwait International Airport: Ujjain Resident Killed in Drone and Missile Strike

A 55-year-old tailor from Madhya Pradesh, who had spent three decades working abroad, was killed while waiting for a flight home to attend a family wedding.

The residents of Raj Royal Colony in Ujjain are in deep mourning following the death of Manzoor Ahmed, an Indian national who lost his life during an alleged Iranian attack on Kuwait International Airport. Mr. Ahmed, 55, had been working as a tailor in Kuwait for nearly 30 years and was on the verge of returning to his hometown to participate in his nephew’s wedding, scheduled for June 8.

A Final Journey Interrupted

According to his son, Mohammad Anas, the tragedy occurred on the morning of Wednesday, June 3. Mr. Ahmed had arrived at Terminal 1 of the airport to board a flight to Mumbai, intending to reach Ujjain the following day. His family, who last spoke with him on the evening of June 2, recalled that he was in high spirits, eagerly anticipating the reunion. The silence from his phone the next morning sparked immediate panic, which eventually led to the confirmation of his death by the Indian Embassy in Kuwait.

Regional Conflict Claims Civilian Lives

The attack on the Kuwait airport, which involved both drones and missiles, caused significant damage to the facility and prompted the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to suspend all flight operations. Reports from local health authorities indicate that at least 63 people were injured during the incident, with several patients requiring emergency surgical intervention. This latest strike has further heightened concerns regarding the safety of civilian infrastructure amid the ongoing regional conflict in West Asia.

Embassy Coordinates Repatriation

The Ministry of External Affairs has officially condemned the violence, reiterating its stance that civilian populations and infrastructure must remain protected from such hostilities. While the government had initially refrained from disclosing the victim’s identity, the Indian mission in Kuwait has been working closely with local authorities to expedite the return of Mr. Ahmed’s mortal remains. His brother-in-law, Mohammed Ismail, noted that the family expects the body to arrive in India on Thursday night, with plans to transport him to Ujjain for the final rites.

A Family Left Devastated

For the family in Ujjain, the loss is monumental. Mr. Ahmed was the sole breadwinner for his wife, son, and two daughters, all of whom are currently pursuing their education. Having last visited home in October 2025, he had expressed a desire to return more frequently to be with his loved ones. As the family prepares to receive him for the last time, the local community has rallied around them in their grief, while the administration assists in making the necessary arrangements for his final journey home.
