With a worldwide gross nearing ₹236 crore, the thriller firmly cements its status as a titan of modern Malayalam cinema.

The persistence of Georgekutty continues to pay off. Twenty days into its theatrical run, Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 3 has proven that the audience’s appetite for high-stakes suspense remains insatiable. Despite the inevitable weekday cooling-off period, the film has clocked a net collection of ₹40 lakh in India on its 20th day, a modest 20 per cent dip from the previous day’s figures. This keeps the project on a steady, albeit slowing, trajectory as it inches toward the end of its theatrical shelf life.

Domestically, the performance has been nothing short of historic. With a total India net collection of ₹107.33 crore and a domestic gross of ₹124.51 crore, the film has effectively overtaken Mohanlal’s previous powerhouse, L2: Empuraan. It now officially stands as the second highest-grossing Malayalam film in India, trailing only the record-shattering Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.

Global Reach and Domestic Dominance

While the domestic market provides the backbone of this success, the international appeal of the franchise remains a massive contributor. With an additional ₹5 lakh pulled in from overseas screens on Day 20, the film’s international gross now stands at a staggering ₹111.60 crore. When combined with its domestic earnings, the worldwide gross collection has climbed to ₹236.11 crore.

The breakdown of this performance highlights a clear trend: consistent engagement. After an opening week of ₹81.95 crore and a second-week contribution of ₹20.68 crore, the film saw a notable uptick during the third weekend—collecting ₹1.70 crore on Sunday alone—before the expected weekday slide. While the Malayalam version continues to drive the bulk of the revenue, the Telugu dub has also contributed to the tally, signaling the franchise's enduring popularity across southern markets.

Why It Matters

This run marks a pivotal shift for the Malayalam film industry. Historically, regional cinema struggled to maintain momentum beyond the opening weekend, but Drishyam 3 has demonstrated that the "event film" model is now firmly entrenched in Kerala's creative ecosystem. By surpassing the domestic benchmarks of L2: Empuraan, the film proves that audiences aren't just looking for spectacle; they are gravitating toward established, high-quality intellectual property.

As the film settles into the later stages of its theatrical window, speculation regarding the drishyam 3 ott release date has hit fever pitch among fans who missed the big-screen experience. However, given its current box office legs and the premium value of such a franchise, distributors are likely to hold out for a strategic window that maximizes both theatrical revenue and eventual digital licensing fees.
