Smartphone Market Shifts: OnePlus N6 Launch Set for June End as Vivo Hikes Prices

As the mid-year gadgets news cycle heats up, major manufacturers are recalibrating their India strategies through new product drops and sudden price revisions.

The Indian smartphone market is witnessing a flurry of activity this June, with brands balancing aggressive expansion with tactical pricing adjustments. OnePlus has officially put an end to the speculation surrounding its latest budget offering, confirming that the OnePlus N6 will hit the market on June 30. Positioned in the Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000 bracket, the company is betting big on the "N" series—standing for "New, Neo, and Never Off"—to capture the mid-range segment by prioritizing battery endurance and consistent performance.

Meanwhile, HMD is widening its footprint in the accessible 5G space. After debuting the Vibe 2 5G last month, the brand is now introducing a higher-spec 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage. Priced at Rs 16,999, the device aims to attract value-conscious buyers with a bank-offer incentive that effectively brings the entry price down to Rs 14,999 when sales open on June 16.

Pricing Pressures and Market Realities

While some brands are expanding their portfolios, others are grappling with the rising costs of doing business. In a move that may catch some consumers off guard, Vivo has quietly initiated a round of price hikes across several of its popular models. The Elite series has seen the most significant upward revision, with the V70 Elite jumping from Rs 54,999 to Rs 58,999. The standard V70 has also seen a hike of Rs 4,000, while the budget-friendly Y-series models, specifically the Y21 and Y400, are now dearer by Rs 1,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.

The Bigger Picture

These shifts reflect a complex period for the mobile industry. For the consumer, this primary source data indicates a clear divergence in strategy: manufacturers are using new hardware launches to keep the momentum going, while simultaneously adjusting legacy pricing to navigate inflationary pressures on component costs. Whether these hikes dampen demand or if the market remains resilient depends largely on how quickly competitors follow suit. For now, the focus remains on the upcoming OnePlus launch, which will be a litmus test for how much premium appeal a "budget" series can command in an increasingly crowded ecosystem.
