PMRDA Commissioner Warns of Strict Action as Infrastructure Projects Stall in Khed

Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari has directed officials to expedite stalled road projects in Khed after local resistance and land acquisition delays hampered regional connectivity.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is adopting a zero-tolerance policy toward individuals hindering critical infrastructure development in Khed taluka. Following an extensive site visit on Saturday, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari issued a stern directive to his engineering and planning teams to overcome administrative hurdles and local opposition, which have effectively paralyzed several key transport corridors.

Addressing Critical Bottlenecks

The intervention comes as the industrial belt of Chakan faces mounting pressure from severe traffic congestion. During his tour, Dr. Chaudhari inspected seven major infrastructure links, including the 30-metre DP road stretching from Hingane Chowk to the Volkswagen facility on the Talegaon-Chakan highway and the 45-metre RP road connecting MIDC Phase-5 to the Pune-Nashik highway. These routes are considered vital for the seamless movement of goods and commuters within the region’s primary industrial hubs.

Other infrastructure sites under review included the 15-metre DP road in Mauje Nanekarwadi, the 36-metre DP road from Bangla Vasti Chowk to Rase Phata, and the 30-metre RP road linking Waki Budruk to Medankarwadi. According to officials, the progress on these projects—and others in areas like Kharabwadi—has been stagnant due to ongoing land surveys and pushback from local landowners.

A "War Footing" Mandate

Dr. Chaudhari has instructed the engineering department to resolve coordination issues immediately, emphasizing that these projects must be completed on a "war footing." The directive is aimed at alleviating the chronic traffic gridlock that defines the Chakan-Talegaon industrial corridor, a region essential to the state’s manufacturing output. By ordering the immediate resumption of work, the PMRDA aims to prevent further cost escalations and logistical delays for the industries reliant on these transport arteries.

To ensure compliance, the Metropolitan Commissioner has empowered his team to initiate strict legal and administrative action against any elements deliberately obstructing land acquisition or site surveys. This move signals a shift in the authority’s approach, moving from negotiation to enforcement to safeguard government-mandated development goals.

Regional Connectivity at Stake

The PMRDA’s push is not merely about road construction but about long-term regional connectivity. By fast-tracking these developments, the authority intends to integrate the rapidly expanding industrial pockets of Khed more efficiently with the wider Pune metropolitan network. The visit was supported by a high-level team, including Chief Engineer Shivprasad Bagadi and Joint Metropolitan Planner Shweta Patil, who are tasked with overseeing the execution of these directives on the ground.

As the administration prepares to clear these roadblocks, the success of these projects will likely hinge on the delicate balance between securing land rights and meeting the urgent infrastructure requirements of one of Maharashtra’s most significant industrial zones.
