PM Kisan Update: Why Your 23rd Installment Could Be Stuck and How to Fix Your eKYC

With the 23rd installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana set for June 20, thousands of farmers are finding their payments at risk due to pending eKYC formalities.

As the June 20 rollout date for the 23rd installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana approaches, a sense of urgency has gripped the agricultural community. While government data points to a massive disbursement—covering approximately 9.44 crore beneficiaries—a significant number of farmers are discovering that the official portal no longer displays the direct eKYC option. This technical hurdle is not merely a website glitch; it is part of a wider administrative push to purge ineligible beneficiaries from the system, a move that could see over 2 lakh names removed this cycle.

Navigating the eKYC Bottleneck

For farmers unable to locate the eKYC link on the official portal, the process has shifted toward more direct, verified channels. Reliance on digital self-service has been curtailed, necessitating a visit to the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or State Seva Kendra (SSK). To streamline this, farmers must carry their Aadhaar card and their specific registration number.

The process requires a biometric verification, managed by a CSC operator, which typically incurs a nominal service fee of ₹15. It is critical to ensure that the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar is active and physically with the farmer during the visit, as the mandatory OTP verification cannot be bypassed. While some users might still attempt to use the mobile app in conjunction with the 'Aadhar Face RD' service, the physical visit to a CSC remains the most reliable method for those whose digital options have vanished.

Why it Matters: The Bigger Picture

This tightening of verification protocols reflects a growing trend in direct benefit transfers (DBT) across India. By mandating rigorous eKYC updates, the government is not just clearing technical backlogs; it is conducting a systematic audit to ensure fiscal integrity. When millions of transactions are involved, even small discrepancies in data—such as inactive accounts or mismatching biometric records—can lead to massive leakage. For the individual farmer, this means the 'PM Kisan status' check is no longer a passive activity; it is an active requirement to stay within the eligibility net.

The Stakes for the Kisan

The crackdown on ineligibility is real. With the previous March installment reaching over 9.46 crore beneficiaries, the slight dip in the current target figure underscores the government’s intent to prune the list. Farmers should avoid falling for misinformation or unreliable third-party portals that promise quick fixes or registration shortcuts. Stick to the official channels. If your payment is delayed, treat your eKYC status as the first point of investigation, rather than assuming a banking error. Ensuring your documentation is current is the only way to avoid the automated exclusion filters that are currently active ahead of the June 20 deadline.
