Internal Strife in AMMA: Ansiba Hassan Moves Court to Force FIR Against Lakshmipriya and Cop

The former office-bearer alleges harassment and procedural irregularities during a police verification process, challenging the Thrikkakara ACP’s earlier clean chit.

The simmering tensions within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) have spilled over into the judiciary. Ansiba Hassan, a former joint secretary of the prominent film body, has formally approached the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Thripunithura, seeking a court-mandated FIR against fellow actor Lakshmipriya and a sub-inspector attached to the Thripunithura Women’s Cell. This legal maneuver follows a series of heated exchanges that began when Lakshmipriya, currently the vice-president of AMMA, initiated a complaint against Hassan regarding an allegedly ambiguous message that reportedly caused domestic discord.

Hassan’s petition, filed on June 13, 2026, marks an escalation after the police declined to register a case. She contends that she was subjected to harassment and unlawful detention under the guise of an inquiry. Central to her grievance is the conduct of SI Reshma, whom Hassan accuses of allowing Lakshmipriya and her husband to be present during what was meant to be a formal police interrogation. For Hassan, the experience was a source of public insult and procedural overreach.

The Police Stance

The Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) had previously conducted a preliminary probe, which included a review of station CCTV footage and statements from the involved parties. In a report submitted to the District Police Chief, the ACP dismissed the necessity of an FIR. The police maintain that the sub-inspector acted within the scope of her duties by summoning Hassan for verification, explicitly denying any claims of illegal confinement.

According to the police findings, the original complaint lodged by Lakshmipriya against the actor did not meet the legal threshold for criminal charges. The ACP’s report suggests the dispute originated from a personal misunderstanding rather than a criminal act, framing the police involvement as a standard administrative response to a citizen’s grievance.

Why it matters

This public clash within AMMA highlights the fragility of internal grievance mechanisms within influential industry bodies. When personal disputes between high-profile members are escalated to law enforcement, it forces the police into the uncomfortable position of mediating professional rivalries. The case serves as a reminder of how quickly interpersonal conflicts can spiral into systemic legal battles, straining the credibility of both the association and the local police. Whether the judiciary directs a fresh investigation or upholds the ACP’s closure report remains the next critical hurdle in this controversy.
