The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is currently managing a complex weather tapestry across the country, where the sweltering heat of summer is colliding with the early, erratic arrival of monsoon showers. In Telangana, the weather conditions are particularly volatile; while residents of ten districts, including Nizamabad and Karimnagar, are bracing for a severe heatwave with temperatures projected to climb as high as 44°C, others are on high alert for heavy rainfall.

A Tale of Two Extremes

The IMD has issued a clear alert for the state as the weather continues to fluctuate. While the heatwave warning covers the northern and eastern belts of Telangana, a separate, simultaneous notice has been issued for heavy rain—expected to reach up to 115 mm—in districts like Warangal and Mahabubnagar. Across the country, the pattern is similarly fractured. While Delhi and parts of Northwest India remain locked in a dry, stifling grip with temperatures hovering above 40°C, the Northeast and parts of Southern India are witnessing the onset of the monsoon, bringing much-needed, if sometimes excessive, precipitation.

The IMD reports that even as 17 states—including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra—prepare for light to heavy rain, the relief is not uniform. In Uttar Pradesh, for instance, localized thunderstorm warnings are running parallel to long-term heatwave conditions. This volatility is a reminder that the transition phase of the Indian summer is rarely a smooth shift toward the monsoon.
