Behind the Closed Doors of a Bengaluru Daycare: A Parent’s Worst Nightmare

Disturbing footage from a facility inside a major IT campus has triggered a police investigation after children were allegedly subjected to cruel disciplinary tactics.

Every parent’s daily routine is built on a foundation of absolute trust—the belief that when they drop their children off at a daycare, they are walking into a safe, nurturing environment. That trust has been shattered in Bengaluru following the emergence of horrific visuals from a child-care centre operating inside the Capgemini campus. The videos, which have since sparked widespread outrage, allegedly show caregivers using abusive methods to silence toddlers.

The visuals are nothing short of harrowing. According to reports and the ongoing investigation, children as young as two were stuffed into the metal drum of a front-loading washing machine, locked inside bathrooms, and forced to endure the indignity of having a toilet jet spray pointed directly into their mouths. The actions were allegedly used as "punishment" whenever the toddlers cried.

The Investigation Begins

The Bengaluru police have swung into action, registering an FIR against five women caregivers identified in the footage. Investigators are currently in the process of recording statements from the complainants—the distressed parents—as well as the daycare staff and potential witnesses. While the police are methodically verifying the authenticity of the videos and establishing the sequence of events, the incident has reached the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which is expected to demand a formal report from the authorities.

A critical point of ambiguity remains: the exact operational structure of the facility. While the centre is located inside the multinational’s campus, it is not yet clear whether the daycare is managed directly by the company or by an external service provider. Regardless of the corporate arrangement, the incident has highlighted a massive lapse in oversight for facilities that serve as a home-away-from-home for hundreds of employees.

Why It Matters

This case is a grim reminder of the "black box" nature of private childcare in corporate spaces. When we place our children in the care of others, we often assume that corporate-affiliated facilities come with rigorous background checks and high standards of accountability. However, this incident suggests a systemic failure in monitoring the daily conduct of caregivers. It raises uncomfortable questions about how we vet the individuals tasked with the physical and emotional safety of the most vulnerable among us.

The implications for the broader daycare industry in India are significant. Parents are now likely to demand greater transparency, perhaps even moving toward live-streamed access to play areas or more frequent, unannounced third-party audits. While technology can provide some assurance, there is no substitute for a culture of empathy and professional training. As the investigation moves forward, the focus must remain on ensuring that such acts of cruelty are met with the full weight of the law, setting a precedent that child safety is non-negotiable.
