A Wedding Invitation Turned Into A Death Warrant: The Tragic End of a Mysuru Family
A wedding that was meant to be a celebration of new beginnings in Mysuru has ended in a grim tragedy, claiming three lives and leaving a village in shock.
The wedding invitations had been sent out, and the home of 21-year-old Rakshitha was supposed to be abuzz with the final preparations for her big day on June 24. Instead, the village of Kempayyanahundi in T. Narsipura taluk is now mourning a chilling triple suicide. On Monday, Rakshitha, along with her father Shivanna (54) and mother Nagarathna (44), ended their lives after being pushed to the brink by relentless harassment.
The family left behind a suicide note that explicitly names one Ullas Gowda as the primary cause of their desperation. According to the investigation, the tragedy stems from a campaign of mental torment orchestrated by Gowda, who had been obsessed with the young woman. Although Rakshitha’s engagement to another man took place three months ago, Gowda allegedly refused to accept the reality, continuing to stalk and intimidate the family.
The situation spiraled into a nightmare just a week before the wedding. Gowda reportedly approached the parents, demanding they call off the marriage so he could marry Rakshitha instead. When the family rebuked him and even held a village panchayat to resolve the matter, Gowda chose retaliation over restraint. He allegedly weaponized private photos and messages from the past, sending them to the groom-to-be in a calculated attempt to shame and isolate the family.
The Varuna police have registered a case and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. While the Kannada Prabha report highlights the specific details of the harassment, the tragedy has sent shockwaves through the region. This incident is not just a local crime; it is a harrowing indicator of how digital privacy and social stigma can be weaponized to destroy lives, often leaving victims feeling they have no recourse but the ultimate exit.
Why it matters
This incident in Mysuru is a grim reflection of a persistent, dangerous pattern in small-town dynamics: the intersection of unrequited obsession, social coercion, and the lethal misuse of digital footprints. When a private dispute is escalated through the public shaming of a woman, the psychological toll on the entire family is often underestimated until it is too late. It serves as a stark reminder that stalking and harassment—often dismissed as "youthful infatuation"—are predatory behaviors that require swift, systemic intervention. Without robust protection for victims against such targeted character assassination, the sanctity of a home remains increasingly fragile.
